Everything we need to heal ourselves already exists within us. Sometimes we need support to slow down, reconnect, and listen with enough kindness for something new to become possible.

About Mika

A contemplative path into therapeutic practice.

Throughout my life, I have been drawn to deeper questions: Why are we here? What does it mean to live with awareness? How do self-love and compassion bring us closer to these answers?

My path began through the study of spirituality, including a B.A. in Religious Studies from Oberlin College, followed by a period of Zen training in monasteries in Japan. I later spent several years participating in Lakota sweat lodge ceremonies, taking monastic retreats, and developing contemplative practices in nature.

As meditation and breathwork became central to my life, this gradually led me into somatic work and therapeutic practice.

Alongside my formal training, I have explored approaches to psychological and spiritual transformation, including shamanic traditions, shadow work, and other practices. These experiences also inform my perspective, while my therapeutic work remains grounded, practical, and centered on the needs of the client.

Approach

We begin with what brings you here.

My goal, when we meet, is to focus on what brings you here.

What is your intention? What, inside you, is asking for attention? What wants to be heard? Let’s listen.

My approach is informed by Somatic Experiencing and mindfulness, shaped by over 25 years of Zen meditation practice. Both support us in slowing down and observing, allowing connections between thoughts, emotions, and bodily experience to emerge.

Rather than treating patterns as problems to fix, we approach them with curiosity, acceptance, and compassion, seeing them as meaningful adaptations. Your coping strategies, relationship patterns, and responses to stress are not random. They are learned programs, often formed early in life.

The good news is that once we begin to understand these patterns, change becomes possible. By supporting the nervous system in returning to regulation, we regain access to what feels alive within us. From there, new clarity can emerge: Who am I? What do I want? What are my boundaries?

In addition to Somatic Experiencing, my work is informed by Gabor Maté’s Compassionate Inquiry. I also draw from ecopsychology, especially Shinrin Yoku, forest bathing, as a way of supporting regulation, presence, and reconnection with nature.

I trust that each person carries an inherent capacity for healing. My role is to support the conditions in which that capacity can unfold.
